Meso-Tox (Micro-Tox)

The new generation of skin refinement

What is Meso-Tox or Micro-Tox?strich

Meso-Tox, also known as Micro-Tox, is a modern aesthetic medical procedure designed to improve skin quality. Unlike conventional botulinum toxin treatment, where the medication is injected precisely into specific facial muscles, Meso-Tox involves injecting very small amounts superficially into the skin (intradermally).

The primary goal of the treatment is not to relax facial muscles or correct deep expression lines. Instead, the aim is to refine the overall skin texture. The skin can appear smoother, fresher, and more even; fine lines can be softened; and enlarged pores as well as excessive sebum production can often be visibly improved.

Botox injection in the forehead to reduce expression lines

The technique is based on mesotherapy, a procedure in which active ingredients are delivered into the superficial layers of the skin via numerous small injections. For Meso-Tox, botulinum toxin is used for this purpose—either alone or in combination with other skin-enhancing substances such as hyaluronic acid, vitamins, or amino acids. Different treatment approaches are employed depending on the treatment goal.

The treatment is primarily aimed at individuals seeking natural skin rejuvenation without altering their facial expressions or creating a “frozen” look. Following the treatment, many patients report a fresher complexion, refined skin texture, and a subtle lifting effect. Results typically appear within a few days and last for approximately four to six months, depending on skin type, metabolism, and the treated area.

However, Meso-Tox does not replace conventional botulinum toxin treatment for pronounced expression lines. Instead, it complements existing aesthetic medical procedures and can be effectively used—particularly for fine crinkles, enlarged pores, and oily skin, or for general skin refinement. The method is also frequently combined with other treatments such as skin boosters, microneedling, or laser therapy to achieve a comprehensive improvement in the skin’s appearance.

What advantages does Meso-Tox offer compared to classic Botox and other skin rejuvenation procedures? strich

Aesthetic medicine today offers a wide range of treatment options. Which method is best suited depends on the desired outcome: relaxing expression lines, improving skin quality, tightening the skin, or compensating for volume loss.

Meso-Tox occupies a special position among these options. The method combines the properties of mesotherapy with the effects of botulinum toxin and is aimed primarily at individuals who wish to improve their skin texture without significantly altering their natural facial expressions.

Difference from classic Botox®

strich

The most important difference between classic Botox and Meso-Tox lies in the method of application and the treatment goal.

In a classic botulinum toxin treatment, the active ingredient is injected precisely into specific facial muscles. This reduces muscle activity and allows typical expression lines—such as frown lines, forehead lines, or crow’s feet—to be smoothed out.

Meso-Tox, on the other hand, takes a more superficial approach. The active ingredient is introduced into the skin in very small quantities. The primary focus is on:

  • a finer skin texture,
  • pores that appear smaller,
  • less skin shine,
  • an improvement in fine creases,
  • a fresher-looking complexion.

A significant advantage can be that natural facial expressions are largely preserved. The result often appears subtle and natural, as the focus is not on the movement of larger facial muscles.

Natural facial expression

Many people today do not desire “perfectly smooth” skin, but rather a fresh and rested appearance. A common reason for choosing Meso-Tox is the desire to improve skin quality without friends or colleagues immediately noticing that an aesthetic treatment has been performed.

A gentle refining effect can be achieved through topical application. Facial features generally remain unchanged.

Improving skin quality rather than just treating wrinkles

While traditional wrinkle treatments specifically target individual lines or wrinkles, Meso-Tox focuses more on the skin’s texture.

The method can be particularly interesting for:

  • large-pored skin,
  • oily skin,
  • uneven complexion,
  • fine, superficial lines,
  • diminishing skin freshness.

This distinguishes Meso-Tox from many other procedures that primarily replace volume, resurface the skin, or stimulate the deeper layers of the skin.

Comparison with other skin rejuvenation procedures

Meso-Tox and Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

Hyaluronic acid fillers are primarily used to compensate for volume loss or to alter contours—for example, in the cheeks, lips, or areas with deep wrinkles.

Meso-Tox, on the other hand, can improve skin quality without adding volume. Both methods pursue different goals and can complement each other.

Meso-Tox and Skinboosters

Skin boosters typically contain stabilized or non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid and primarily improve the skin’s hydration and elasticity.

Meso-Tox can also influence skin shine, pores, and the activity of certain glands. Which method is more appropriate depends on the condition of the skin.

Meso-Tox and laser or peeling procedures

Laser treatments and medical peels work primarily by bringing about a controlled renewal of the skin’s surface. They can be used, for example, to treat pigmentation disorders, scars, or significant skin damage.

Meso-Tox, on the other hand, is less invasive and generally does not require a lengthy recovery period. The two procedures can be combined for certain skin issues.

Meso-Tox and Microneedling

Microneedling stimulates the body’s own repair processes through tiny skin injuries and can support collagen formation.

Meso-Tox works via a different mechanism. The procedures can complement each other, as they target different biological processes.

Minimal downtime

Another advantage of Meso-Tox is the comparatively short recovery time. Although temporary redness or slight swelling may occur after the treatment, many patients are quickly able to return to their social activities.

Compared to more intensive procedures such as certain laser treatments or surgical interventions, the strain on the skin is usually significantly lower.

For whom is this approach particularly interesting?

Meso-Tox is particularly suitable for people who:

  • wish for a subtle improvement,
  • They place value on natural facial expressions.
  • do not want a significant change in their facial features,
  • want to improve their skin quality
  • prefer a treatment with minimal downtime.

Limitations of the method

Despite the aforementioned benefits, Meso-Tox is not a universal skin rejuvenation procedure. Other methods are often better suited for deep wrinkles, significant volume loss, or pronounced skin laxity.

The greatest advantage of Meso-Tox, therefore, lies not in replacing other procedures, but in offering an additional option for a natural, fresh-looking complexion.

Good to know: Modern aesthetic medicine increasingly relies on individually tailored treatment concepts. Often, it is not a single method but the targeted combination of various procedures that yields the most harmonious and natural results.

Who is the treatment suitable for?

strich

Meso-Tox is suitable for men and women who wish to improve their skin quality without altering their natural facial expressions. The treatment focuses not on correcting individual deep wrinkles, but on refining the overall complexion. The goal is a fresh, rested, and—as far as possible—natural appearance.

The treatment is particularly suitable for individuals noticing early signs of skin aging or wishing to specifically improve their skin texture. Meso-Tox can be used both preventively and for gentle skin rejuvenation.

Common areas of application

Meso-Tox treatment can be particularly beneficial for:

  • fine wrinkles, for example on the cheeks or under the eyes
  • enlarged pores
  • oily or shiny skin
  • increased sebum production
  • an uneven complexion
  • decreasing skin tension
  • mild sweating in the facial area
  • the desire for a fresh, natural-looking complexion without a frozen expression

Many patients choose Meso-Tox because they want to improve their skin quality without others getting the impression that they have had a cosmetic procedure. The face often looks fresher and more rested, while natural facial expressions are preserved.

For what age is Meso-Tox suitable?

There is no fixed minimum or maximum age. The condition of the skin and personal treatment goals are the deciding factors.

Among younger adults, Meso-Tox is frequently used to improve enlarged pores or oily skin and to treat early signs of aging. From middle age onwards, the primary focus is usually skin rejuvenation. While the treatment can also help give mature skin a fresher appearance, it does not replace procedures designed to tighten sagging skin or restore lost volume.

Which areas of the body can be treated?

Meso-Tox is a versatile treatment method that can be applied to various areas of the body. It is most commonly used on the face, as improvements in skin quality are particularly visible there. However, depending on skin condition and treatment goals, the neck, décolleté, or other body areas can also be treated.

Which region is suitable for you depends on your individual preferences as well as a medical examination.

Face

The face is the most common treatment area for Meso-Tox. The goal is to improve skin texture, refine pores, and achieve an overall fresher complexion.

The following are treated particularly frequently:

Forehead

The forehead area is particularly suitable for addressing fine crinkles, oily skin, or enlarged pores. Unlike classic botulinum toxin treatment, the primary focus here is not on relaxing the forehead muscles, but rather on improving the skin’s surface.

cheeks

The cheeks are among the most popular treatment areas. Here, Meso-Tox can help refine enlarged pores, improve skin texture, and reduce fine lines. Many patients find their skin feels smoother and more even after the treatment.

Nose

In the nose area, Meso-Tox can help reduce excessive sebum production. As a result, the skin often looks less shiny and pores appear finer.

chin

Meso-Tox is frequently used on the chin to visually improve uneven skin texture or the so-called “orange-peel” appearance (*peau d’orange*). Excessive sebum production can also be positively influenced.

Area under the eyes

Meso-Tox can be used in selected cases for very fine wrinkles under the eyes. Since the skin in this area is particularly thin and delicate, the treatment should be performed exclusively by experienced physicians.

Upper lip

Fine lip lines—often referred to as “smoker’s lines”—can be softened using Meso-Tox. The goal is gentle smoothing without significantly restricting lip mobility.

Neck

As we age, the skin on the neck loses elasticity. Meso-Tox can help reduce fine, crinkly lines and improve skin texture. However, for pronounced muscle bands (platysmal bands), a conventional botulinum toxin treatment is usually more suitable.

Décolleté

The skin of the décolleté is particularly thin and is exposed to the sun and environmental factors on a daily basis. Meso-Tox can help improve fine lines and an uneven skin texture. The treatment is often combined with skin boosters or other skin rejuvenation procedures.

Hands

Meso-Tox can also be used on the backs of the hands to improve skin quality and achieve a smoother appearance. Since volume loss is often a primary concern with the hands, Meso-Tox is frequently combined with other treatments in this area.

Scalp

In some practices, Meso-Tox is also applied to the scalp. The aim is to reduce excessive sebum production or heavy scalp sweating. Furthermore, there is discussion regarding whether the treatment might provide support for certain forms of hair loss.

Other body regions

In special cases, Meso-Tox can also be used on other areas of the body, for example:

  • in the armpit area with slightly increased sweating,
  • on the upper back or shoulders in cases of oily skin,

in the chest area to improve skin texture

What does a treatment involve?

strich

Meso-Tox treatment is a minimally invasive procedure typically performed on an outpatient basis in a medical practice. The treatment usually takes anywhere from a few minutes to about half an hour, depending on the size of the area being treated and the individual treatment plan.

The most important step before any treatment is a detailed consultation. During this session, the skin condition, personal wishes, and expectations regarding the outcome are discussed. At the same time, the treating physician assesses whether the method is suitable and whether there are any medical reasons against the treatment.

1. Consultation and skin analysis

Before the first treatment, a precise assessment of the skin is carried out. During this process, the following questions—among others—are addressed:

  • Which skin changes are to be improved?
  • Is it more about pores, shine, fine lines, or general skin refinement?
  • What results are realistically achievable?
  • Is Meso-Tox the right method, or would another procedure be better suited?

A thorough consultation is particularly important, as Meso-Tox is not a conventional wrinkle injection treatment. The focus is on improving skin quality rather than completely smoothing out all signs of aging.

2. Preparation of the skin

Before the treatment, the skin is thoroughly cleansed and disinfected. Depending on the patient’s sensitivity, a topical anesthetic cream may be used to make the treatment more comfortable.

Many people find the small pricks quite bearable. The use of very fine needles or modern injection techniques generally allows discomfort to be kept to a minimum.

3. The actual treatment

With Meso-Tox, a highly diluted botulinum toxin solution is administered superficially into the skin via numerous small injections. This treatment differs significantly from conventional botulinum toxin therapy, which targets specific individual muscles.

The attending physician adapts the approach individually:

  • to the quality of the skin,
  • the desired effect,
  • the treated body region,
  • the anatomical peculiarities.

A precise understanding of skin and muscle structures is crucial, particularly in the facial area, to achieve a natural result and avoid unwanted effects.

4. After the treatment

Immediately after the treatment, mild redness, slight swelling, or small, raised bumps may appear at the injection sites. These reactions are usually temporary and generally disappear within a few hours to a few days.

As a rule, patients are ready to socialize immediately after the treatment. However, depending on skin sensitivity, it may be advisable to avoid scheduling important appointments or special occasions immediately following the procedure.

Post-treatment instructions

To protect the skin, the following recommendations are usually given:

  • Do not rub or massage the treated areas vigorously at first.
  • Avoid intense heat exposure, such as saunas or very hot baths, for a short period.
  • Reduce strenuous physical activity immediately after treatment, in accordance with medical advice.
  • Use sun protection, especially for sensitive skin.

Individual recommendations may vary depending on the area being treated and the physician’s assessment.

How often should the treatment be repeated?

The optimal interval between treatments depends on various factors, such as skin type, age, metabolism, and the desired result. Some patients opt for regular touch-up treatments, while others choose individual sessions for special occasions.

The decision regarding repeat treatments should always be made on an individual basis. Treatment that is too frequent is not automatically better; what matters is a sensible, medically justified treatment plan.

Good to know: Meso-Tox is a gentle method for improving skin quality. Success depends significantly on the careful selection of suitable patients, professional execution, and realistic expectations.

What can you expect after the treatment?

strich

Following a Meso-Tox treatment, many patients primarily desire a fresh, rested, and natural appearance. It is important to note that Meso-Tox does not fundamentally alter the face; instead, it primarily improves the quality and appearance of the skin.

The result develops gradually. Typically, no visible improvement in skin quality is to be expected immediately after the treatment, as the active ingredient first needs to take effect.

The first few hours after the treatment

Immediately after the treatment, the skin in the treated areas may appear slightly red. Minor swelling, small raised bumps at the injection sites, or a slight sensation of tightness may also occur.

These reactions are usually temporary and generally disappear within a few hours to a few days. Many patients can resume their daily activities immediately after the treatment.

After a few days

The effects of botulinum toxin begin to appear after approximately three to seven days. Initial changes may become visible:

  • The skin often appears more balanced.
  • Skin shine may be reduced.
  • The pores may appear finer.
  • The skin surface may appear smoother.

Since Meso-Tox does not instantly add volume like a filler, the result does not appear immediately after the treatment but develops slowly and naturally.

After about two weeks

The final result usually becomes apparent after approximately two weeks. Typical effects may include:

  • a fresher complexion,
  • a finer skin texture,
  • less visible fine surface lines,
  • an even complexion,
  • reduced sebum and sweat activity in the treated areas.

Many patients describe the effect as a “rested appearance” or a natural “glow.” Facial features generally remain unchanged.

How long does the effect last?

The duration of action varies from person to person. It depends, among other things, on:

  • the treated area,
  • skin texture,
  • age,
  • to the metabolism,
  • of the treatment technique used.

The effect typically lasts for about four to six months. Afterward, the body gradually breaks down the botulinum toxin, and the treated structures resume their original activity.

With regular treatments, some patients report a long-term improvement in their skincare routine and a consistently more refined complexion. However, a permanent change in skin structure through Meso-Tox alone cannot be guaranteed.

What Meso-Tox cannot do

Realistic expectations are crucial for satisfaction with the result. Meso-Tox can:

  • improve skin quality,
  • soften fine lines,
  • Visually refine pores,
  • Reduce skin shine.

However, it cannot:

  • completely remove deep wrinkles,
  • surgically tighten sagging skin,
  • replace lost volume,
  • halt the natural aging process.

In cases of more pronounced changes, other or additional procedures may be more appropriate.

Can you be fit for social interaction again right away?

Compared to many more intensive aesthetic procedures, downtime with Meso-Tox is usually minimal. However, it should be noted that the skin may be temporarily red or slightly swollen after the treatment.

If you are planning an important appointment, a celebration, or a special event, you should not have the treatment done immediately beforehand, but rather allow for an appropriate amount of time in between.

The Importance of Aftercare

Good skincare supports the treatment results. This includes, in particular:

  • daily sun protection,
  • skincare tailored to the skin type,
  • adequate hydration,
  • a healthy lifestyle.

Meso-Tox can improve skin quality but does not replace a consistent skincare routine.

Good to know: The best results are usually achieved when Meso-Tox is viewed not merely as a way to “erase wrinkles,” but as part of a holistic skincare and rejuvenation approach. The goal is a natural improvement: the skin should look better—not different.

What side effects and risks can occur?

strich

When administered correctly by experienced physicians, Meso-Tox is generally considered a well-tolerated treatment method. However, as with any medical treatment, side effects can occur. Most reactions are temporary and harmless; nevertheless, patients should be aware of the potential risks before deciding to undergo treatment.

Individual risk depends on, among other factors, the area treated, skin condition, personal health, and the experience of the person performing the treatment.

Common and temporary side effects

Most side effects result from the many small injections into the skin and are usually only temporary.

This includes:

Redness

The skin may appear red immediately after the treatment. This reaction is caused by mechanical irritation of the skin and usually disappears within a few hours.

Minor swelling

Small bumps or swellings may appear at the injection sites. These usually resolve within a few hours to a few days.

Bruises

Since small blood vessels may be hit during the treatment, isolated bruises can occur. The risk is increased if medications affecting blood clotting are being taken.

Tenderness to pressure or a slight burning sensation

Some patients experience temporary sensitivity or a slight feeling of tightness in the treated areas. These symptoms generally subside quickly.

Meso-Tox should not be performed in cases of:

strich

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Allergy to botulinum toxin or any of the ingredients
  • Infections or inflammation in the treatment area
  • Certain neurological disorders
  • Taking blood-thinning medication
  • Coagulation disorders
  • Chronic skin diseases in the treatment area
  • Pronounced tendency towards allergies
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • A prior intolerance to botulinum toxin treatments
